Hi !

I am Reshu Lakra, a children's book illustrator based in India. I grew up very close to my family and cousins and listening to the stories told by my grandparents. Hence, relationships and emotions have a great influence on me and my work. I love to draw characters that are full of energy and emotions. My style is cute, joyful, colorful and tries to capture the joy of little things in life. I have a soft spot for textures and details in my work.

 

I remember doodling on the margins of my notebooks and painting in my drawing pad since childhood. As I grew up, I fell in love with the idea of illustrating picture books for young children since the possibilities of storytelling were endless. I love to illustrate both animals and humans. I love to work on stories that inspire and are meant to bring joy to the little ones. I am also keen on writing stories for children.

Whenever, I get a chance, I go for an early morning walk so that I can experience the calmness of nature, the chirping of birds and the first rays of sunshine fall on Earth. Nature is a big source of inspiration for me. I love to capture pictures of flowers and leaves that I find on my way, which I try to incorporate in my illustrations later.

 

I work both digitally and traditionally in bright, playful colors and I enjoy every bit of the book illustration process. Trying out new art supplies is my guilty pleasure. Gouache and color pencils are my favorite traditional mediums.

 

When I am not drawing, you could find me travelling to the hills, taking a nature hike, cooking , filling my cup with some tea and having deep conversations with my loved ones, listening to my favorite music, watching  re-runs of F.R.I.E.N.D.S., The Office, Modern Family, Harry Potter & petting my dog, Mickey !
